Pet owners have probably heard of many different approaches on how to feed their pets - free-grazing, free-feeding, feeding 3 times a day, etc. We believe that scheduled feeding is essential for a healthy and happy pet.

Dogs and cats are meat eaters and are ideal to be fed planned meals rather than grazing on their food throughout the day. Here are 4 reasons why we recommend providing portioned meals on a routine basis:
1. CREATURES WITH A HABIT
Dogs and cats are habituated to following the same routine every day. Your pet is therefore depending on you, to feed them at specific times. Feeding on a routine basis can create a stronger bond between the owner and the pet.

2. EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Feeding your pet on a routine basis makes them feel loved and safe, resulting in a happier and more satisfied animal. Free-feeding does not create the same bond between humans and animals since your pet has no idea when or if they will be fed.
3. IT'S NORMAL TO HAVE AN APPETITE.
Consider this: do you have a big appetite when you have the flu? When something is wrong with us, our hunger is one of the first signs that we notice, and many cats and dogs are the same. A lack of appetite is often a sign that something is wrong with your pet and might indicate illness or a health problem. It's important to keep track of your pet's behavior if they aren't eating. If you're free-feeding your pet, analyzing their health based on their hunger might be difficult if you don't know when their last complete meal was.

4. OBESITY PREVENTION
You should be responsible for how much and when your dog or cat eats as a pet owner, not the other way around. You can regulate your pet's caloric and nutritional intake every day by feeding on a constant and regular schedule.
Allowing your pet to eat whenever it wants might result in your pet being overfed or underfed. If you're wanting to transition to a more consistent feeding plan, Prince & Princess pet food is the way to go!
